Flickr Adds Video

By mauntech | April 8, 2008

Today, Flickr has added a new, and much anticipated feature to their web site, video.  Users can now add video as well as photos with their Flickr account.

For a new and anticipated feature, Flickr doesn’t add any details.  On TechCrunch, I found out that you can add 90 seconds of video and the file size limit is 150mb.

Here is more info from TechCrunch.  Click the following link to see the rest of the TechCrunch article on Flickr Video.

Flickr video also differentiates itself from YouTube by only allowing pro users upload videos (it costs $25/yr to be a pro user), although both free and pro users can view videos. As with photos, videos can be made public or private. They can also be shared/embedded individually or as part of sets. But like YouTube, Flickr is providing an API for programmers to create services that access videos hosted on Flickr.

I must say with little info posted on their web site and such a short video length, this seems to me to be a disappointing new feature.  What do you think about it?  I don’t have a Flickr account, do you?
